education ready steady art! | 2012—2020

READY, STEADY, ART! — actions in Katowice urban space started in August As we follow the same route every day, we slowly blend in with the landscape and stop responding to external stimuli. To prevent this, the BWA Contemporary...

There is an old Indian saying; ‘when I close my eyes, the world disappears’, which brings up questions, such as ‘what is the world?’ Where and when does it emerge? How different are the worlds of people who cannot hear or see? The key element of this workshop is reflection on the role of sight in communication, culture and cognitive experience. Other issues to be discussed include: How do physical sensations contribute to the way we feel reality? What happens to reality if one of the senses is reduced in the process of cognition? The workshop tasks include exercises in looking at photos and recognising sounds, objects and odours.  One of the activities will be a walk during which participants will assume the roles of a person who can see — the guide — and a person who cannot see, but decides which path and direction to take.
