READY, STEADY, ART! — actions in Katowice urban space started in August As we follow the same route every day, we slowly blend in with the landscape and stop responding to external stimuli. To prevent this, the BWA Contemporary...

1. Time is money — people rush to their jobs, homes, meetings, and the rhythm of their lives is faster than the clock hands ticking. Public space is crowded with passers-by who do not attract any attention to themselves, yet their fates, stories and experiences converge, merge and permeate one another. Synchronous movements place these characters in one continuum, and all their actions consist of awkward attempts to communicate with their partner, who might even be someone they have only just met. It might be worthwhile paying attention to the people sitting next to us on a park bench.

2. Flashback. Deep recesses of our memory retain tastes, smells and colours of our childhood. What if we could go back to our first birthday or games that we used to play with friends? As we observe the vivid, energetic and spatial dance that is based on hopscotch, our own past comes to mind. We can take a distance to look at phenomena such as low level of peer acceptance or competitiveness, which have their beginning in innocent children's games but become later reflected in an adult world.

3. Wandering around the streets of contemporary cities, each of us have probably wondered what they looked like dozens of years ago and what people's lives were like then. At the beginning of the twentieth century, did Katowice citizens behave as was appropriate, did they care about good manners and the newest fashion? They might have. Or it might be just an excuse for us to say that ‘it was better back then’. A stroll along Mariacka Street might be nothing more than a casual walk, but it can also become a series of illogical and strange occurrences that might be in no way related to each other. Well, which kind of walk is more likely to happen anyway?
