Field Recording Workshop with Marcin Dymiter aka Emiter

A sound is a medium that is universally accessible and understood, and the one that is marginalised in the context of visual culture. Its main role is to comp entertainment or music, and yet there is much more to a sound than that. The sound has informational, cognitive and social value, and on top of that – it is the contemporary language of art. An interesting form of sound art is field recording, with its focus on the sounds that fill the surroundings of a certain place. What I have conceived is a long-range project dedicated to the phenomenon of places that are unusual acoustics-wise. My art work revolves around sounds of specific places, and so do my other undertakings — such as lectures, workshops, meetings and sound projects — which are meant to spread the idea of field-recording. A study of one's sound surroundings may lead one to the understanding of their identity, as well as to appreciating the character of a specific place.
