Asgar Bozorgi ‘Daydreams’ — till 6th October

Asgar Bozorgi has opted out of using anecdotes in his works — instead, he conveys emotions through colours and light. The key ingredient of his paintings seems to be the interplay between surfaces and depths, with superimposed layers of paint and subtle forms that reveal as much as they hide. Thus, in a way, these images function similarly to frayed, holey curtains, allowing access to the contents of the subconscious and revealing that which has been hidden there.

Judgement of abstract art usually requires educated expertise but Bozorgi's works are different in this respect. To read his art, the viewer only needs to be equipped with the readiness to devote it enough time and attention.

The impact of these paintings is not achieved through any content that could be possibly verbalised — for Bozorgi, feeling is synonymous with understanding.

It is not paints and brushes that create these works — rather, the images materialise as they are being discerned by the audience. Traces left by the brush signify the physical presence of the artist, disclosing his every manouvre and withdrawal. The result is that when the viewer is looking at the abstract composition, they encounter the creative process in reverse, with the sequence leading from the observation of the surface to descent into deeper chasms of the painting.

Bozorgi's works aim to confront viewers with their mode of viewing things, forcing them to identify the bases of their perception. This act of self-reflection is a temporal experience that allows us to look into the phenomenon of time and be here and now in this specific space.
